For our babies under 1, we have a separate sleep room with cots available. Babies aged 12 months and under are placed to sleep in a cot or Moses basket, on a firm, flat surface, on their back and with their feet at the bottom of the cot. Children’s heads are never covered, and we do not use pillows, cot bumpers, sleep pods or other unsafe sleep products.
Once a child is asleep, physical sleep checks are carried out every 5 minutes and recorded in real time. Staff check that the child is breathing, comfortable, not too hot or cold, and that blankets remain safely below their shoulders.
Our children are always supervised while sleeping. Staff remain responsible for the sleeping children, and all children must remain within sight and hearing while they sleep.
For babies under 6 months sleeping in cots, a member of staff remains in the sleep room throughout their sleep. For babies over 6 months, our camera and sound baby monitor allows continued monitoring between the 5-minute physical checks.
We also have CCTV throughout the nursery, including within each room, alongside our other safeguarding measures. CCTV does not replace physical sleep checks — it is an additional safety measure.
We follow each child’s individual sleep routine, work closely with parents and never force a child to sleep or leave a child to cry themselves to sleep.
Their safety, wellbeing and comfort always come first. 💛
