Routines in our rooms!

We wanted to share a little more about how our daily routines work across each room and how we support children as they progress through Banana Moon.

Our Babies & Teenies, Mini Moons and Full Moons rooms all have routines designed around the ages and stages of the children within them. While there is structure to each day, our routines remain flexible and we always follow each child’s individual needs, interests and development.

Babies & Teenies – 3 months to 2 years
Our youngest children have the most flexible routine, particularly around sleep, as babies and toddlers all have different needs.
Their day includes free play, focused activities, child-led activities, garden time, songs, meals, snacks and sleep.
  • Breakfast: 7:30am–8:30am
  • Morning activities and play: 8:30am onwards
  • Morning snack: 10:00am–10:30am
  • Garden time: 10:30am–11:30am
  • Lunch: 11:30am–12:00pm
  • Sleep/rest and activities: 12:00pm–2:00pm
  • Afternoon snack: 2:00pm–2:30pm
  • Garden time/activities: 2:45pm–3:30pm
  • Tea: 3:30pm–4:00pm
  • Afternoon play and activities: 4:00pm–6:30pm
Their routine is particularly flexible as children under two may need to sleep at different times, and we always respond to their individual needs.

Mini Moons – 2 to 3 years
As children move into Mini Moons, their routine becomes a little more structured while still allowing plenty of flexibility.
Their day includes circle time, free play, focused and child-led activities, garden time, meals, snacks and rest time.
  • Breakfast: 7:30am–8:30am
  • Morning play and activities: 8:30am–9:00am
  • Registration/circle time: 9:00am–9:20am
  • Play and activities: 9:20am–10:00am
  • Morning snack: 10:00am–10:30am
  • Garden time: 10:30am–12:00pm
  • Lunch: 11:45am–12:30pm
  • Sleep/rest and activities: 12:30pm–2:00pm
  • Afternoon snack: 2:00pm–2:30pm
  • Registration/circle time: 2:30pm–2:50pm
  • Garden time/activities: 2:50pm–4:00pm
  • Tea: 3:45pm–4:30pm
  • Afternoon play and activities: 4:30pm–6:30pm
Activities at this age support growing independence, communication, physical development, social skills and problem-solving.

Full Moons – 3 to 5 years
In Full Moons, children continue to build on everything they have learnt in the younger rooms. Their routine becomes more structured and provides opportunities for children to develop independence, confidence and school-ready skills.
  • Breakfast: 7:30am–8:30am
  • Morning play and activities: 8:30am–9:00am
  • Registration/circle time/show and tell: 9:00am–9:20am
  • Play and activities: 9:20am–10:00am
  • Morning snack: 10:00am–10:30am
  • Garden time: 10:30am–12:00pm
  • Lunch: 12:00pm–12:30pm
  • Rest/activities: 12:30pm–2:00pm
  • Afternoon snack: 2:00pm–2:30pm
  • Registration/circle time/show and tell: 2:30pm–2:50pm
  • Garden time/activities: 2:50pm–4:00pm
  • Tea: 4:00pm–4:30pm
  • Afternoon play and activities: 4:30pm–6:30pm
The routine continues to include focused activities, free play and child-led learning throughout the day.

Learning grows with your child
One of the most important things we want parents to understand is that our environment, resources and activities grow with the children too.
For example, you may see:
  • Babies exploring large, soft foam blocks.
  • Mini Moons progressing to smaller blocks that encourage more controlled building and problem-solving.
  • Full Moons using normal-sized blocks as their coordination, strength and skills develop.

The same principle applies across our rooms. Toys, resources and activities are carefully selected and adapted to be appropriate for the children’s age, stage of development and interests.
When children from different age groups join an activity together, the activity is adapted so that every child can participate at a level appropriate to them. A younger child may be exploring and developing one skill, while an older child is encouraged to extend and challenge their learning.

This is also how we support smooth transitions between rooms. Children are not starting again when they move rooms — they are building on what they already know and gradually developing their skills, confidence and independence.
Most importantly, our children are always learning through play. Whether they are exploring sensory activities, building with blocks, playing outside, joining circle time or leading their own play, there is learning and development happening throughout their day.
Our aim is for every child to feel confident, happy and ready for their next step, with their environment, routines and experiences growing alongside them.
