Our freshly prepared hot meals are available to all children as part of our daily routine, and we encourage every child to enjoy these wherever possible.
We understand that there may be occasions where a packed lunch is the best option for your child. If this is the case, packed lunches can be provided with prior agreement from the Nursery Manager, provided they meet our healthy eating and food safety guidance.
To help us maintain the same high standards of nutrition for every child, packed lunches should include:
• Bread, wraps, pasta, rice or other starchy foods.
• Fresh fruit and vegetables.
• A source of protein such as chicken, eggs, beans, lentils or cheese.
• Dairy products or suitable dairy alternatives.
• Water (or blue cows milk where appropriate).
These foods provide children with the nutrients and energy they need for a busy day of learning, exploring and having fun.
Helping Us Keep Everyone Safe
To promote healthy eating and protect children with allergies, we kindly ask that packed lunches do not include:
• Nuts or foods containing nuts.
• Chocolate, sweets or chocolate-coated snacks.
• Crisps or other salty snacks.
• Sweetened yoghurts or desserts.
• Dried fruit.
• Fizzy drinks, squash or fruit juice.
• Convenience foods such as chicken nuggets, sausage rolls or ready meals.
Our nursery is proud to be a nut-free environment, helping to keep every child safe.
Keeping Food Fresh
If your child brings a packed lunch, please:
• Clearly label the lunch bag with your child's name.
• Pack it in an insulated cool bag.
• Include a frozen ice pack to keep food chilled until lunchtime.
Our team will check lunchboxes each day to ensure food is safe to eat and follows our healthy eating guidance. If we ever have any concerns, we will always speak with you sensitively and offer support.
Celebrating Birthdays
We love celebrating birthdays and special occasions with our children.
To help keep everyone safe, particularly children with allergies, we kindly ask families not to bring homemade cakes, sweets or treats into nursery. This also helps us comply with the healthy eating guidance.
Instead, we celebrate every child's special day with songs, birthday wishes, special activities and making them feel extra special in ways that everyone can enjoy.
Working Together
Thank you for supporting our healthy eating approach. By working together, we can help children develop positive relationships with food, enjoy trying new flavours and build healthy habits that will benefit them for years to come.
If you have any questions about our menus, packed lunches, allergies or dietary requirements, please speak to a member of our friendly team. We're always happy to help.
